There are a couple definitions for RSS and there are several explanations of the acronym. We prefer this one: Really Simple Syndication.

This basically means that almost anyone can publish information from their site, and others can subscribe to receive all the latest updates and with their news aggregator can stay informed about updates, without having to visit your site or receive an email from you. It comes in very handy for press releases, marketing campaigns, and even articles.
